The Rt. Rev. Laura J. Ahrens presently serves as the Bishop Suffragan in the Episcopal Church in Connecticut. Laura’s passion for the Jesus Movement is seen in her commitment to exploring creative, innovative, and life-giving ways to share God’s reconciling love. Offering vision, energy, and faithful leadership, she works closely with the congregations, diocesan camp, Episcopal schools, deacons, and a variety of chaplaincies in Connecticut.
Participating in the Jesus Movement involves deepening our understanding of God’s love for us as well as seeking to share that love in the world. Laura encourages participation by teaching about being a disciple (follower) of Jesus and an apostle (one sent) to share the Good News. She invites individuals and worshiping communities to deepen their discipleship by seeking to be formed and informed by the teachings of Jesus in worship, prayer, and development of Christian community. Laura shepherds communities as they try on new and collaborative ways of being apostles. We share God’s love when we courageously join God in our local neighborhoods and participate in ministries of hope and new life.
Laura is a lifelong learner. She holds degrees from Princeton, Yale, and Hartford Seminary. Committed to personal and corporate prayer, Laura’s own spiritual practices include daily prayer, retreats with the Society of St. John the Evangelist, and regular meetings with her spiritual director.
Laura is an avid runner, a lover of British murder mysteries, and a budding chef. Vacations are filled with adventures with friends, playing golf, and visiting her parents on Cape Cod.
