Beginning September 16 and concluding the week of the annual convention in November, the Episcopal Church in Delaware will launch This Is What We Mean, a 10-week social media series inviting us to look at some of the things we say often in the Church — and talk about what we actually mean.

Through short, weekly reels featuring an opening introduction from Bishop Brown and a response from Teri Quinn Gray, the series will offer simple, conversational reflections on what it means to live our faith in the world today. All of the images and video clips featured in the series comes from our churches and Camp Arrowhead, celebrating the people and places that make up the Episcopal Church in Delaware. The tone is intentionally warm, direct, and welcoming, with a little room for the questions and skepticism some might bring to conversations about church and faith.

Each week’s reel and accompanying story will be shared on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube as well as posted in The Net eNewsletter. The series will also have a home on the diocesan website, www.delaware.church, with a new front-page image each week reflecting that week’s theme.

The series will explore:

• Welcome — What does “all are welcome” really look like?
• Love Your Neighbor — What does loving our neighbor look like?
• Faith — Can we have faith without having all the answers?
• Community Division — How can we remain in relationship when we don’t agree?
• Creation Care — Why does caring for the earth belong to our life of faith?
• Racial Justice — What does our commitment to the dignity of every person ask of us?
• Doubt — Is there room in the Church for honest questions and uncertainty?
• Belonging — What does it mean to truly have a place here?
• Hope — How do we hold onto hope when life is difficult?
• Serving Others — What does it mean to put our faith into action?

And then, we’ll put it in your hands.

To bring the series together, a 16-page booklet will be printed for each parish and will be available at the annual convention. The booklet will explore each of the ten themes, paired with images from the series. The final pages will celebrate the breadth of our diocese with an image and name of each church.

This Is What We Mean is ultimately an invitation to say some things about our faith a little more plainly — and to make clear that the things we talk about matter. Welcome. Belonging. Justice. Creation. Hope. Service. Faith…
