Reflection on the 240th Annual Convention
of the Episcopal Church in Delaware

by Cynde A. Bimbi

The 240th Annual Convention of the Episcopal Church in Delaware, held November 22–23 at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center in Rehoboth Beach, was a joyous and uplifting gathering. Against the beautiful backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, Episcopalians from across the state came together to reconnect, reflect, and re-imagine the future of our shared mission. The atmosphere was one of hope and gratitude, setting the tone for the convention.

A highlight of any Delaware Episcopal gathering is the fellowship, and this year was no different. From the lively Friday evening social to the warm Saturday morning breakfast conversations, there was an abundance of laughter, storytelling, and connection. The bonds we share as one church are deepened in these moments of togetherness, reminding us why community is central to our faith.

Worship was, as always, a time of inspiration. There’s something truly moving about raising our voices together in prayer and song, surrounded by friends old and new.

Workshops made a welcome return to convention this year, focusing on Growth, Service, and Discipleship — key themes drawn from Bishop Brown’s five-year mission priority blueprint. These sessions provided practical tools and fresh perspectives, sparking new ideas for ministry and engagement in our parishes and beyond.

Bishop Brown’s address further encouraged us, casting a vision of unity and hope under the banner of “One Church in Delaware.” His message echoed through the convention, reminding us of our shared mission and the opportunities ahead.

A true highlight was our keynote speaker, the Rev. Canon Dr. Stephanie Spellers, whose wisdom and passion left us inspired to embrace change and deepen our commitment to God’s work. Her presence was a gift, enriching the conversations and reflections throughout the weekend.

The business sessions were conducted with a spirit of collaboration and purpose as we held elections, voted on a resolution, received the treasurer’s report, found inspiration in ministry reports and videos, and recognized the dedicated service of individuals and ministries that have made a significant impact in our diocese and our Church. These sessions allowed us to focus on the heart of convention: our shared ministry.

And, of course, the location added an extra touch of joy. Gathering by the sea in Rehoboth Beach reminded us of the beauty of God’s creation and the importance of rest and renewal as we carry out the work before us.

As we reflect on this year’s convention, we do so with gratitude for the connections made, the hope renewed, and the vision shared. We are energized to continue walking forward as one church, united in mission and love.

Text of Bishop’s Address will be published in the Winter edition of the Delaware Communion.
